People and participation - a really useful publication by Involve which provides a practical guide to thinking about different participation models, how to use participation and when to use it.

Participation Nation - another publication from Involve taking more of an overview of participation and it's role in democracy.  It looks at the role of the citizen in the public realm from a number of different perspectives.  Again a really useful and interesting read.

'First talk, then vote': An article by Robert Goodin.  He argues the need for both talk or deliberation and voting in a democratic decision-making process.

Participatory budgeting in Europe: Potentials & Challenges by Sintomer, Herzberg and Rocke.  This article looks at 6 different models of PB across Europe and assesses their potential to deliver meaningful PB.
