“There isn’t a single service or development in Britain which hasn’t been improved by actively involving local people”

Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP, Secretary of State
Communities and Local Government - CONFIRMED KEYNOTE SPEAKER

The route to real improvement lies in your local community. Unlocking this talent and translating it into tangible outcomes and new opportunities is down to you and your partners. The Empowerment White Paper will set out a framework and offer some guidance but the real solutions must come from and be led by local people.

LGC has designed a comprehensive event to help you get to grips with what empowerment means and how you can achieve this with your community. With a detailed look at pioneering community-led projects and future policy, get a firm understanding of the opportunities, risks and potential for empowerment. And how it can be driven forward successfully in your area.

Unlock the talent of communities for local improvement

Get guidance from a range of engaging contributors on areas including:
  • Translating engagement into effective empowerment with your community and partners
  • Designing successful and sustainable models for empowerment and community projects
  • Linking local political and strategic priorities through a shared local vision
  • Realising the benefits of devolving decision making to your community
  • Measuring the impact of community empowerment outcomes to drive future improvement

From exploring participatory budgeting and community charter projects, to policy guidance and discussion, this event offers you a range of support and ideas to strengthen working with your community and what it can achieve.

Empowerment offers unprecedented opportunities to reshape and improve your local area and the services it offers. Attend this conference to make sure you can make the transition from engagement to achieving real outcomes through community empowerment.

The PB Unit with Salford City Council are facilitating a workshop on participatory budgeting in the afternoon session.  The workshop will be interactive and will help delegates to discuss the benefits and challenges of PB in their area and look at how they might implement PB.
