Recycling with You Choose in Tameside
Tameside have just had their voting events across the borough, where 726 people voted on how to spend over £400,000 of money saved through recycling
Tameside have been implementing PB for 3 years in St. Peter's ward, led by the neighbourhood management partnership.
This year they decided to roll it out to the rest of the borough - with 8 different events. For 10 years, the money saved in waste incineration costs, through residents recycling has been given back to the community in recognition of their hard work recycling waste.
This year they decided to try a new approach to allocate the money - by involving residents across the borough in PB.
Over 720 people participated in 8 voting events, allocating over £400,000 to 149 projects put forward by local community and voluntary groups.
97% of participants were happy with the voting events and 90% thought that You Choose was a good way of deciding how money is spent locally.
97% of participants thought that they were able to influence how money is spent locally through You Choose and 88% wanted more money to be allocated in the same way.
91% said they'd go to a You Choose event again.
Organisers in Tameside are now collating all the information to produce an evaluation report, and are considering repeating it again next year.
