Crewe starts PB process

Two neighbourhoods in Crewe will have the opportunity to decide how £12,000 of public funds should be spent in their areas.

This month, residents in Alexandra and Delamere wards can decide how to spend £26,000 of Area Based Grant money, which is targetted at improving community  cohesion.

Projects have been developed by local officers following on from consultation with residents in the wards about their local priorities.  The priorities included community facilities, environmental improvements, community safety and crime reduction.

In addition to the £12,000 each neighbourhood can allocate, there is an additional £2,000 for children and young people from Pebble Brook School and Ruskin High School to allocate to youth projects of their choosing.

Suggestions for the Alexandra ward include a keep fit family project, ice rink, community orchard, increased CCTV and improvements to Pebble Park.

Potential projects in Delamere include a residents’ parking scheme, recycling sites, more activities for young people, fencing to secure areas and speed watch training.

Voting in Delamere will take place on 11th June in three different locations across the ward.  And Alexandra residents can have their say on 16th June in two different locations in the ward.

Councillor Brian Silvester said: “Participatory Budgeting offers residents the opportunity to directly influence how money is spent in their communities.  Furthermore, residents’ involvement doesn’t end with voting - community groups will oversee the projects being commissioned to ensure local people are involved at every stage.”
