First Scottish PB is launched
The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) is working with Scottish local authorities to implement the first PB pilots around anti social behaviour in Scotland. This is the first PB in Scotland for a number of years.
The first PB pilots will be implemented in the Autumn of 2009.
The participatory budgeting scheme will operate across three community planning partnerships - Scotland’s version of local strategic partnerships - and will allow residents to decide how money should be spent reducing crime and nuisance behaviour.
The pilots were launched as part of a series of proposals in the Scottish government’s community empowerment action plan, unveiled this week.
The action plan includes proposals to fund a new training programme on community empowerment and engagement for councillors – believed to be the first of its kind for Scotland.
COSLA will be providing support and guidance to the local authorities to help them pilot PB and the PBU is working with COSLA to develop this.
