Police seminar a success!

60 delegates turned up to the Lancashire county cricket club in September to discuss how the police (in partnership) could implement PB. When asked at the end if they planned to start a PB process in the next 12 months, over 80% of the delegates said they were.

The event started with a presentation from Mike Alderson of Open Eye who spoke about looking afresh at how we promote and market PB the difficult economic climate.   Caroline O’Brien, Engagement Development Officer with Greater Manchester Police Authority spoke about the work the GMPA are doing especially around engaging the young.

Bob Macey gave a presentation on the Home Office's policy perspective and Phil Teece provided the key messages from the PB Unit.

After a short 'warm up' exercise where delegates had to prepare a 30 second pitch to sell PB to their senior executive, Acorns Neighbourhood Management talked about their PB project in the Acorns area of Scunthorpe.  Acorns used £20,000 of Home Office funding to trial PB in the neighbourhood management area with much success.  They're now working with the Local Strategic Partnership to develop a longer term programme.

In the afternoon, there were two workshops.  The first looked at how to start a PB process.  The second looked at how to develop a partnership approach.  The number of ideas generated in the workshops showed how engaged delegates were and how seriously they took PB.

Delegates said that the seminar was "Very interesting and opened my mind to new ideas" and "Great Stuff.  Good energy levels".  With the vast majority of those attending planning to implement PB in the next 12 months, demonstrated the relevance of the event.
