Wrexham residents allocating £15,000

The residents of Whitegate in Wrexham voted to fund 7 projects at a decision event on 17th March.

Councillor Marc Jones hosted the event in Whitegate, with the support of the PBU's sister organisation - Together Creating Communities - and Wrexham council's housing department.  Councillor Jones felt the event went really well.  He said :

"We've learned a lot from this pilot scheme and this has been the first step in engaging the whole community, both tenants and residents, in improving the area for the benefit of all. Some of the schemes that came forward were over budget and we're trying to find additional funding from other sources for those. We're also looking at getting volunteers to do some of the smaller environmental schemes so that nobody's project is left on the shelf."

In Queensway, also in Wrexham, residents will get to decide how to spend £15,000 on 31st March in a decision event hosted by Councillor Carrie Harper.

The scheme allows local people to put forward projects to improve their street or area as part of the council's Environmental Improvements budget.  The Housing Department are providing the £15,000 from rent monies, so tenants of the Caia Park estate get to decide how it should be spent.

Jane Cotton, Caia Park's housing manager, said:

"It's gone really well.  The tenants have come up with some really good schemes, and put lots of thought and imagination into improving their own and the wider area.  We look forward to seeing the work start on the winning projects, so the community will see the benefits of their involvement and hard work."
